6th International Colloquium for Research and Action on Academic Integrity
“How can we design doctoral programmes that enable students to develop a strong identity as ethical researchers?”

We are pleased to invite you to the 6th Colloquium for Research and Action on Academic Integrity, which will be held online on June 17 and 18, 2027, exploring how doctoral education can foster an identity of research integrity in the face of AI, budget constraints, accelerated timelines and other emerging challenges.
The virtual environment will enable students, researchers, scholars, academic leaders, administrators and representatives from funding institutions to connect globally as we share our experiences and hopes in an academic and friendly environment.
With each colloquium, we build together the movement of sciences of integrity. This year, we turn our attention to doctoral education and to the conditions needed to promote a lasting identity of research integrity among doctoral students.
Topics
In the face of AI, budget constraints, and accelerated timelines, this theme urges us to combine research and action to address issues such as:
- The silencing of doctoral students who witness misconduct around them but feel unable to speak out or challenge established practices.
- The pressure to publish and collaborate, including pressure from supervisors to join research teams or co-author papers without sufficient time for discussion, reflection and the development of genuine co-contributions.
- The dominance of performance metrics, which can dilute individual responsibility and create incentives for opportunistic behaviour and individualism.
- The financial precarity of doctoral research, shaped by competitive funding opportunities and grant systems perceived as uncertain or driven partly by chance rather than by merit.
- The ambiguity surrounding the responsible use of AI, including how doctoral students can address questions of authorship, transparency, originality, accountability and research integrity when using generative AI.
- The role of doctoral supervision, and how supervisory relationships can either strengthen or undermine students’ ethical awareness, autonomy and sense of responsibility as researchers.
- The tension between accelerated doctoral timelines and meaningful research, particularly when time pressures leave little room for critical reflection, methodological rigour or ethical deliberation.
- The institutional responsibility for research integrity, asking whether doctoral students can develop an identity of integrity when the structures, incentives and cultures surrounding them send conflicting messages.
Communication
Each presentation will be allocated a maximum of 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes for discussion. We aim to create opportunities for dialogue, ensuring we leave sufficient room for discussion to make the most of our time together.
The Colloquium is a space to bring together voices from different backgrounds and disciplines to promote dialogue around the common challenges we face in advancing research integrity. By promoting this sense of community, we hope to create lasting collaborations that extend well beyond the colloquium itself.
This year, we are particularly interested in hearing from doctoral students who can share their lived experiences and knowledge with us. We also want to bring together supervisors, academic leaders and those with the responsibility and capacity to listen, reflect and help turn these insights into meaningful institutional change.

Dates to remember
- November 1, 2026: start of paper proposal submissions in the form of a notice of intention, which should be sent to Heidi Reed (heidi.reed@audencia.com) and Cinta Gallent-Torres (cinta.gallent@uv.es).
- January 15, 2027: closing date for notice of intention submission.
- March 15, 2027: acceptance decision by the Scientific Committee.
- May 7, 2027: submission of text (20,000 characters maximum, including spaces) for publication in the Open-Source conference proceedings. Please follow the IRAFPA author guidelines.
